A stonemason by the name of Charles Quinn was fired by his superintendent. Quinn returned with a revolver and butcher knife to receive back pay he thought he was owed. When Curry told Quinn he was under arrest, Quinn stabbed him seventies with the butcher knife. Townspeople lynched Quinn on the evening of the first.
